MADRID, Nov. 30 (AP) Spain said Wednesday it is working on a new ethics code to stop toymakers from using sexist stereotypes in ads such as dolls for girls and dolls for boys as the Christmas season kicks off. doll.

A government statement said the new “self-regulatory” code urged companies to place advertisements that cast an image of diversity and equality and shed stereotypes.

“Sexually suggestive depictions of girls will be prohibited and avoid associating toys with their (girls’) roles (such as caregiving, housework or grooming) and with boys in action, physical activity or technology,” the statement said.

The government said the idea was that companies would no longer use colors such as blue or pink to denote products suitable for boys or girls.

The code follows an agreement reached in April between the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, toy makers and promotional companies.

The regulation updates another statute from 2005 and will take effect on Thursday.
