thimpu [Bhutan]March 29 (ANI): Small business owners in Bhutan’s Tsirang district benefited from a Sunday cloth market as it helped them earn a decent living.

Every Sunday, nearly 40 fabric suppliers set up shop in the retail area directly above the Damphu Sunday vegetable market, Bhutan Live reported.

The place where clothes are sold on Sunday is a building built by the Cirang District Government a few years ago to improve the living standards of low-income families in the district.

Bhutan Live reported that one of the businessmen was Choden, 40, from Tsholingkhar Gewog. Since 2015, she has been able to support herself on it. The arrangement helped the mother-of-two support her two daughters and sister after her husband died in 2014.

“I have been saving the meager income from my business to send my children to school. My oldest daughter has finished twelfth grade. But I have a younger daughter and a younger sister who are in twelfth grade. I have to continue to rely on this business for They provide education,” Bhutan Live quoted cloth supplier Choden as saying.

She added that the business is so important to her children that it is difficult to meet daily expenses without any other source of income.

Their main customers are vegetable vendors and shoppers who frequent the Sunday vegetable market. When all goes well, merchants claim they can earn around 30,000 Bhutanese Ngultrum per day, according to Bhutan Live.

However, fabric suppliers claim that having separate stores or having a locking system for their stalls will help them maximize profits and keep them open at least three days a week. (Arnie)
