London [UK]Feb 25 (ANI): The UK government needs to invest in the teaching of South Asian languages as these language skills are integral to maximizing the relationship between the two countries, says Gareth Thomas, Labor and Co-op MP for Harrow West in North West London department.
“The UK needs to start providing serious financial and academic support for the teaching of South Asian languages. The teaching of Gujarati, Urdu and Hindi is important to the UK’s economic future and an opportunity for our young people to achieve academic excellence ,’ said Gareth in an interview with ANI.
“As the UK seeks to strengthen trade links with India, we must invest in the languages of South Asia. These language skills are integral to maximizing our relationship. Not only is India’s population and economy growing, but its middle class is growing. making India an important partner for the UK,” he added.

Appreciating the strong ties between India and the UK, the MP said: “The shared history and community should be maximized for the economic and cultural benefits our two great nations deserve.”
Gareth further highlighted the trade agreement between the two countries, highlighting the Indian economy as a bright spot against global economic headwinds.
“The strength of the Indian economy is indeed a bright spot against global economic and geopolitical headwinds, and a trade agreement between the UK and India will only further strengthen India and further establish India as one of the key countries shaping the 21st century ,” Gareth said.
He added: “A free trade agreement between our two countries will provide opportunity not only for business, but for individuals looking to learn, travel and experience all that our two countries have to offer.”
Gareth Thomas is the Labor and Co-operation MP and Shadow Trade Minister. Gareth has represented the Harrow West constituency since 1997 and was trade and development minister in the previous Labor government.
For Harrow West, in north-west London, Gareth’s constituency is a diverse community with a large community from the South Asian diaspora. His constituency has allowed him to see first-hand what temples, mosques are doing to help young people learn South Asian languages. (Arnie)
