WASHINGTON, June 13 (PTI) India’s ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, has described technology as a force multiplier for the India-US partnership, saying it is the “master key” to unlocking the true potential of the relationship between the two countries.

Sandu’s comments came ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US next week. Modi was invited by President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden for an official state visit, which included a state dinner on June 22. This relationship, for global well-being, is indeed technological. This is the master key to unlocking the true potential in the relationship,” Sandhu said on Monday. “We have a lot of synergy and complementarity in the technology space. For me, technology is driven by trust. It’s both strategic and commercial,” he added. Sandhu was speaking at the US-India Business Council’s annual India Ideas Summit. The iCET Industry Roundtable was launched at this venue in the presence of (Commerce) Secretary (Gina) Raimondo. “And we have (US) NSA (Jack) Sullivan in Delhi today, including the follow-up to the first round of iCET discussions,” he said.

Biden and Modi announced the US-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET) in May 2022 to enhance and expand strategic technology partnerships and defense industry cooperation between governments, businesses and academic institutions of the two countries.

The two sides are finalizing a joint statement, described as a strong outcome document that will shape the nature and contours of India-US relations for decades to come, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.

Sandhu further said: “Across each of the iCET verticals, our teams have been in regular contact. Last week when Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra was in (Washington) DC, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was in Delhi. “We launched the inaugural India-US Strategic Trade The Dialogue, another game-changing conversation, discusses export controls. The depth of Derry has never been better. Talking about Modi’s visit, the Indian envoy expressed great excitement on both sides. “My Prime Minister is the third Indian leader in our independent history to be honored with a state visit by the President of the United States. He also became the only Indian leader to address the US Congress twice,” he said.

It will be the 11th time a US president has hosted a state dinner for an Indian leader, according to the White House Historical Association. However, only two other Indian leaders have been honored with official state visits in the past 75 years.

Two previous state visits included one by President S Radhakrishnan in June 1963 and one by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in November 2009.

When Modi addresses a joint session of the US Congress on June 23, it will make him the third world leader, besides Israel, to do so twice.

The other two were Winston Churchill in 1941, 1943 and 1952 and Nelson Mandela in 1990 and 1994. Modi had earlier addressed the US Congress in 2016. Sandhu said, “While I won’t spill the beans, I can tell you with confidence that the ceremony” isn’t just because the government has been working hard, it’s because all of you have been working hard. ” asserts that the speed and scale of access will be unparalleled. The transformation of the relationship between the two countries is breathtaking, Sandhu said that India today has a mobile subscriber base of more than 1.2 billion and Internet users of 825 million. This means that in the past seven years , India added 1 mobile user and 3 internet users per second. Data costs have been cut by 98% – one of the lowest in the world. India’s envoy said it was about inclusion, innovation and empowerment. “While we are keen to attract US companies Invest in India and strengthen research and development. Given our own strengths and talents, we are happy for Indian companies to invest and create new jobs in the United States. “Our company is actively involved in skills training programs here and contributes to the local community, just like American companies do in India,” Sandhu added.
