Al Jazeera quoted Ukraine’s prosecutor general as saying Russian soldiers carried out a “targeted strike” on Kherson during the evacuation operation last week, killing at least one person and injuring eight others.

“The shelling began precisely during the evacuation of citizens whose homes were flooded,” Ukraine’s Interior Ministry said in a statement, according to Al Jazeera.

Kherson is located on the Dnieper River, about 60 kilometers (37 miles) downstream of the Kakhovka Dam. Russia has accused Ukrainian troops of shelling rescue workers in the Russian-occupied Kherson region.

The Russia-Ukraine war that began on February 24, 2022 has claimed countless lives, and the war between the two countries continues to escalate today.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry said it had repelled an attack by Ukrainian troops in the Donetsk and Zaporozhye regions.

Moscow said its forces had used long-range, high-precision weapons fired from the sea to attack areas belonging to Ukrainian army reserves. Ukraine claimed on Monday (today) that its military had retaken a fourth village from Russian forces, a day after announcing the first modest victory in its long-awaited counteroffensive, Al Jazeera reported.
