washington [US]BEIJING, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) — Indian-American Congressman Ami Bella was appointed on Wednesday (local time) as a member of the influential 118th Congressional Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Intelligence Council oversees national intelligence activities, including the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), National Security Agency (NSA), and military intelligence programs.

Amibela said in a news release that he was “honoured” to be appointed to the House Intelligence Committee.

“I am honored to be appointed by Leader Jeffries to the House Intelligence Committee, which plays a vital role in ensuring the security and national security of the United States,” Bella said in the release.

He further said: “At a time of heightened threats at home and abroad, I take seriously this new role and the responsibilities entrusted to me to protect and defend American families.”

Bella stressed that he looked forward to working with the members of the committee to ensure the effective operation of U.S. intelligence agencies and the maintenance of national security.

“With my decade of experience working on critical national security issues, I look forward to working with committee members from both parties to ensure our intelligence agencies operate effectively and keep our nation safe,” Bella further said.

US Congressman Ami Bera also serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee.

During the 117th Congress, he chaired the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, Central Asia, and Nonproliferation, leading congressional efforts to strengthen relationships with Indo-Pacific allies and partners to advance U.S. economic and security interests . (Arnie)
