[ad_1]

WASHINGTON, 10th January (PTI) The United States has announced an additional $100 million for Pakistan’s recovery and reconstruction efforts after devastating floods that killed 1,739 people and affected 33 million last year.

The funding also includes humanitarian aid to support flood relief and recovery efforts in refugee-hosting areas, State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters at a news conference on Monday.

“I am pleased to share that today the United States is announcing an additional $100 million in recovery and reconstruction funding, bringing our total contribution to more than $200 million,” he said. Price said the additional $100 million in funding will go towards flood protection and governance, disease monitoring, economic growth and clean energy, climate-smart agriculture, food security and infrastructure rebuilding.

The spokesman said the U.S. flood-related aid complemented its broader efforts to establish the U.S.-Pakistan Green Alliance, which examines a range of climate and resilience issues critical to Pakistan’s rebuilding.
