[ad_1]

Washington [US]October 13 (ANI): A US court has ordered Infowars founder and “conspiracy theorist” Alex Jones to pay Sandy Hook shooting victims’ families and first responders nearly $10, according to media reports. One hundred million U.S. dollars.

A Connecticut jury has decided that Alex should pay $965 million in damages to eight families of Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims and a police officer, CNN reported.

Although the decision was announced on Wednesday, the report said the judge in the case has not yet considered punitive damages.

Christopher Mattei, an attorney for the Sandy Hook victims’ families, applauded the court’s decision.

“In over a month in this court, this jury has witnessed Alex Jones’ 10-year attack on the family standing behind me. An attack that made him very rich, an attack that exploited the fears of his audience and An attack of resentment, one targeting these families, falsely claiming they were fraudulent,” CNN quoted Ma Tai as saying.

In December 2012, a 20-year-old man shot and killed 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

Most of the victims in the incident, which is believed to be one of the deadliest mass shootings at schools, were children.

The shooting has sparked a new debate about gun control in the country, including gun legislation that bans the sale and manufacture of certain types of semi-automatic firearms.

Later, radio host Alex Jones said the Sandy Hook shooting was “completely fake” and a “huge hoax” perpetrated by gun rights opponents.

He was then sued for defamation by three parents whose children were killed in the shooting. (ANI)
