LONDON, 6th May (PTI) Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar concluded his two-day visit by attending the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey in London and congratulating the royal pair on The couple expressed goodwill.

Dhankhar, who arrived here on Friday, was joined by around 100 heads of state and government from around the world who were invited to the historic coronation of Britain’s new monarch.

He interacted with King Charles at a reception on Friday shortly after arriving here for the lavish coronation.

“It is a great pleasure to be present today at the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. On behalf of the people of India, I extend our warmest congratulations to the newly crowned King and Queen of Great Britain,” the vice president’s office said in a Twitter statement.

“May India-UK relations become stronger in the years to come,” it said.

Before departing for New Delhi, Danhall also had an intimate interaction with Indian students in the UK organized by the Indian High Commission in London on Saturday night.

Speaking at a gathering of students studying at prestigious British universities, Denhar said India was proud of their achievements and talents and called on them to play the role of goodwill ambassadors for the country.

He went on to highlight the country’s many strides under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscoring its strong democratic credentials.

“India takes its own stand in global affairs according to its own understanding, for its own welfare and world peace. India is becoming a superpower,” Dhankhar said.

“By 2030, India will have the highest working-age population as a percentage of total population at 68.9%. No other country can make such a claim…Transparency and accountability are the credos behind this. The vice-president reiterated his appeal to the wider diaspora with whom he was engaged on Friday night, saying that Indian students in the UK had a duty to counter false narratives about the country.

“If we don’t accept it, there must be an antidote. If we don’t respond, then the false narrative about such a vibrant democracy is contrary to our national interest. And, I have no doubt that the strongest response will always come from reason mind,” he said.
