World’s largest marine restoration project ‘Dubai Coral Reef’ unveiled

Abu Dhabi: Dubai will open the world’s largest ocean restoration and ecotourism project called Dubai Coral Reef.

Sustainable city developer URB has announced its idea for ‘Dubai Reef’, a floating living laboratory for ocean restoration and ecotourism that aims to create more than 30,000 jobs in the green economy.

Dubai Reefs consists of sustainable floating communities for marine research, regeneration and ecotourism. It includes residential, hotel, retail, education and research facilities.

It aims to accelerate Dubai’s marine science and conservation capabilities while building the most diverse artificial reef at 200 square kilometers. It also aims to create homes for more than 1 billion corals and 100 million mangroves.

The project will offer a unique marine ecotourism experience, including several floating ecolodges, all powered by 100% renewable energy from a variety of solar and hydroelectric sources.

Depending on when the project is funded, the first phase could be realized between 2025 and 2030

URB CEO Baharash Bagherian said: “The health of our cities is intrinsically linked to the health of our oceans. healthy city.”
