Sotheby’s weighs 555.55 carats Black Diamond – Believed to be from outer space – “Mystery”.
The rare gem was shown to reporters on Monday as part of a tour. Dubai And before Los Angeles, it will go to auction in London in February.
Sotheby’s expects the diamond to fetch at least £5 million ($6.8 million). The auction house also plans to accept cryptocurrencies as a possible payment method.
Sotheby’s Dubai jewelry expert Sophie Stevens told The Associated Press that the number 5 is significant for diamonds, which also have 55 facets.
“The shape of the diamond is based on Khamsa’s Middle Eastern palm symbol, which represents strength and represents protection,” she said. Khamsa means five in Arabic.
“So there’s a good theme that the number five runs through the entire diamond,” she added.
Stevens also said that the black diamond likely came from outer space.
“For black diamonds, we think they formed through extraterrestrial origins, where meteorites collided with Earth, resulting in chemical vapor disposal, or actually came from the meteorites themselves,” she said.
Black diamonds, also known as black diamonds, are extremely rare and are only found naturally in Brazil and Central Africa.
Theories of the origin of the universe are based on their carbon isotopes and high hydrogen content.
