Yemenis expelled from strategic islands to make way for UAE military bases

[ad_1]

Dozens of Yemeni families were forcibly evicted from their homes on Abdul Kuri Island, Southwest of the strategic island of Socotra, Make way for an Emirati military base, allegedly under the supervision of Israeli military experts.

In a statement on Wednesday, the General Directorate of Fisheries of the Yemeni National Salvation Government strongly condemned the expulsion of the inhabitants of Abdul Kuri Island, part of the Socotra archipelago, about 105 kilometers (65 miles) southwest of Socotra. place.

The evacuation of locals from the Yemeni island was a prelude to its militarization and transformation into an Emirati military base, the statement said, adding that the plan was in line with a US-Israeli conspiracy.

It also pointed to the strategic importance of Abdul Kuri Island, stressing that the United Nations and human rights organizations should carry out their responsibilities in the events that took place on the island.

The bureau called on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and environmental groups to take immediate action amid continued damage to the island’s natural and marine reserves.

Abd al-Kuri is one of the most important islands near the Horn of Africa, rich in economic and oil resources. Yemen has a dispute with the Somali government over the island’s sovereignty.

Saudi Arabia, UAE race for military control of presidential palace in Aden

In another development, reports citing local sources in the southern Yemeni port city of Aden said large military reinforcements, including various ammunition, military vehicles and armored personnel carriers, had arrived there.

The sources noted that the reinforcements, mainly sent by Saudi Arabia, were designed to help closely protect Yemen’s so-called Presidential Council chairman Rashad al-Arimi at the Maashig Palace and members of the council.

The military equipment arrived in Aden less than a day after the UAE sent reinforcements to its allied takfiri militants in Aden.

Earlier, many political analysts described the rivalry between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi as “unreasonable”, using the pretext of “protecting the Maashik Palace and securing the Presidential Council” to suddenly send military reinforcements to the city of Aden.

In March 2015, Saudi Arabia, working with its Arab allies and with the weapons and logistical support of the United States and other Western countries, launched a devastating war against Yemen.

The goal is to re-establish the Riyadh-friendly regime of Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and crush the Ansarullah resistance movement that has been running the country without a normal government in Yemen.

While the Saudi-led coalition has failed to achieve its goals, the war has killed hundreds of thousands of Yemenis and sparked the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
