The Abu Dhabi Environment Agency (EAD) has just announced that in order to regulate recreational fishing in Abu Dhabi, a permit from EAD is required.
According to the EAD, the move is to regulate recreational fishing in Abu Dhabi and is aimed at promoting the sport of ocean fishing. Recreational fishermen and organizers of ocean fishing tournaments will need a license.
No one may engage in this activity without an EAD licence. This includes fishing activities, including “the use of line and hook or speargun while practicing freediving, or any other method specified by the EAD, while ocean fishing competitions are limited to legal persons working in the field of marine activity.”
how to apply?
A permit request application must be submitted along with all necessary documentation.Applicants can choose between an annual permit or a weekly permit, which can be submitted through the Tamm Government Services Portal here.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, however, applicants under the age of 18 may participate with an adult holding a valid fishing license. The license is not transferable and may only be used by the licensee.
For ocean fishing competitions, the organizer is responsible for “enabling the safety of the event by providing the necessary arrangements, tools and equipment to ensure safety and any other requirements imposed by the EAD”.
All documentation is required in addition to the target species used in the competition, the type and quantity of fishing tackle and tackle, and the number of entries. The EAD will further develop the terms and conditions that event organizers will need to abide by.
