President Vladimir Zelensky marked progress in counteroffensive on Sunday Ukraine Beginning last week, thanks to his forces capturing two settlements in the south, a third in the east and more territory in the east of the country.
He did not specify the location of the territories or provide a timeline, other than to say he had received a “good report” from his military commanders and intelligence chiefs at a meeting on Sunday.
In his nightly video address, Zelensky thanked his troops for liberating a settlement in the eastern Donetsk region, also occupying “certain heights” in the eastern region in the direction of Lysychansk-Siversk, and liberating two a southern settlement.
Kyrylo Tymoshenko, deputy chief of the presidential office, posted earlier Sunday an image of soldiers raising the Ukrainian flag over a village he marked as being located in the southern region, the main focus of the counteroffensive.

The Kherson region is located in the northern part of the Crimean peninsula, which Moscow invaded and annexed in February and March 2014, and was occupied by Russian forces early in the current conflict.
Pro-Russian separatists in the Luhansk region captured Lysichansk in early July as part of fighting in the Donbas coal-mining region in eastern Ukraine, which also includes Seversk.
