Zendaya Wants Rue to ‘Maybe Enjoy’ Life in ‘The Thrill’ Season 3

In a recent awards season Q&A hollywood reporterthe two-time Emmy winner joined her Euphoria Shaffer, Maude Apatow and Sydney Sweeney co-stars reflect on season 2 and discuss their hopes for the show’s third installment.

When the actors were asked what the concept of “euphoria” looked like for each of their characters, Zendaya said that for Rue, one of her wishes “is to be alive and enjoy it.”

She added that her character feels like she’s always drowning, hoping that Rue can keep her head above water for a while, “a little bit of happiness and a little bit of joy.”

“I knew she could do it because it was written by Sam, and Sam is Rue, and he did it,” Zendaya added, adding that Rue was inspired by Euphoria Creator Sam Levinson battled drug addiction during his own adolescence. “He’s proof that there’s hope for Rue and anyone like Rue, from those beautiful letters and people who reached out – I’m so grateful for those experiences when people come to me and they talk about Rue and how they relate to her To be connected … to me, that’s the greatest, greatest gift that I could ever have given me to do things with joy and purpose.”

In a voiceover at the end of season 2, Rue reveals that she has come to terms with her breakup with Jules and managed to maintain her innocence for the remainder of her junior year in high school. There are also some hanging threads, like she owes a scary drug dealer (Martha Kelly) $10,000 and threatens to sell her to some “bad guys” if she loses it. But the current situation is somehow looking for this odd teen, which wasn’t always the intention.
