Dubai: Want to meet family or friends but can’t see them? The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) in the Emirates has recently allowed the use of various video and voice calling applications.
These applications, which are considered Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services, are TDRA’s regulated activities in the UAE.
Below is a list of the 12 VoIP applications currently allowed in the UAE.
1. Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams offers users with a Microsoft account a free video conferencing option. With the free version, you can host a 60-minute meeting for up to 100 users.
The app is available for Apple, Android devices and devices running on Microsoft Windows.
2. Zoom
Zoom is another video conferencing app that allows you to start a video meeting and share the meeting link with participants who can join the video meeting. In the free version, you can host meetings for up to 40 minutes with up to 100 participants.
3. Google Hangouts Meetup
Google Hangouts Meet (renamed Google Meet) allows users with Google accounts to participate in video conferences of up to 250 people.
4. Cisco WebEx
The Webex Meetings platform is available for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android devices, as well as the web platform. You can set up a meeting by downloading the app on your laptop or phone and email a link to invite people to the meeting.
5. Publication
One of the TDRA-approved video calling apps is BOTIM, which allows you to make audio or video calls with contacts saved on your phone.
It works on Apple and Android devices.
6. Come on
C’Me is a messenger that lets you chat with other users who have the app installed on your phone, as well as make audio and video calls.
7. HiU Messenger
HiU Messenger is available for Apple and Android devices and lets you chat with other users who have downloaded the app, as well as make audio and video calls.
8. Sound
Available for Apple and Android devices, Voico lets you chat with other users who have downloaded the app, as well as make audio and video calls.
9. Etisalat Cloud Talk Conference
CloudTalk Meeting on iOS and Etisalat CloudTalk on Android, the app allows users to chat and make audio and video calls. However, you will need to purchase a paid plan through Etisalat to use the app, starting from AED 60 per month for the basic plan.
10. Pure Blood
Totok is another TDRA approved app that can be used to chat with other users who have downloaded the app, as well as make audio and video calls. The app is available for Apple, Android and Huawei devices.
11. Eat
Comera is an app for Apple and Android devices that allows one-to-one chats, voice calls and video calls.
12. GoChat
Earlier this year, Etisalat launches GoChat Messenger, an all-in-one free voice and video calling app. The app is available for Apple and Android devices.
