12th Annual Investment Conference kicks off today in Abu Dhabi

Attendees from 170 countries have begun arriving for the annual investment conference (AIM Global 2023), the premier investment platform for global investors, which will be held in Abu Dhabi for its 12th edition from 8-10 May .

The three-day event is expected to attract an international audience of top executives, policy makers, senior business leaders, government officials and civil society representatives, who will gather to identify untapped business opportunities and foster collaboration based on mutual benefit.

The annual investment conference will be held for the first time in the capital Abu Dhabi under the theme “Investment Paradigm Shift: Future Investment Opportunities for Sustainable Economic Growth, Diversity and Prosperity”.

The event is supported by a partnership between the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology and the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development. The annual investment conference is known for bringing together thousands of investors from around the world, and this year’s edition will be no exception.

Focused on building a global economic roadmap, the event will highlight five key pillars – start-ups, foreign direct investment, small and medium enterprises, cities of the future and foreign portfolio investment – aimed at spurring local and international economic growth.

Commenting on the event, Dawood Al Shezawi, Chairman of the Annual Investment Conference, said: “The Annual Investment Conference has become the leading platform for global investors and business leaders to come together to explore new opportunities for growth and development. It will feature a number of initiatives designed to support the five key pillars, including workshops, exhibitions and networking opportunities. Attendees will also have Opportunity to network with leading experts in the investment and technology industries to explore new ways to drive economic growth and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.Investment Track Sessions Under the investment track of the main conference, sessions organized on the first day included “Investing in Space for UN Sustainable Development Goals” Sustainable Development Goals and Sustainability,” presentation by Candace Johnson, Chairman and Partner, Seraphim Space Advisory Board; “Global Economic Outlook – Beyond Paradigm Shifts, Next Steps for Investment Markets ’, explores opportunities for FDI and FPIs to identify changes that will alter the global investment landscape, impact ESG investing and embrace all stakeholders; Investing FPIs in a Greener World focuses on current and future projects and initiatives , to achieve sustainable and diverse FPI; and “Creating Resilient Supply Chains to Enhance Growth Opportunities,” which discusses the relevance of creating resilient supply chains and new infrastructure in the 21st century.

The themes for the second day were “Bridging the Gap: Building Strong International Relationships and Building Trust”, which aimed to examine best practices for building and maintaining long-term relationships, and “Digital Transformation: Integrating innovative technologies into value-added FDI; “Facilitating Investment for Development: How the New Agreement Can Help Increase FDI Flows and Prosperity,” explores how governments and companies can work with international organizations and investment practitioners to implement the IFD Agreement and realize these benefits.

“Quality Foreign Direct Investment: Attracting Meaningful Investments for Economic Growth,” which discusses how attracting investment can boost economic development by creating jobs and driving innovation; Navigating the world’s largest social and environmental shifts; “Geopolitical Tensions: Mitigating Global Risk in Investment Portfolios,” illuminating best practices for recovering from geopolitical tensions; and “Leveraging Investing Supertrends to Create Resilient Portfolio,” looking at current market disruptors and looking at where the industry is headed. In addition, the investment track sessions on the third day include “Sustainable Investing Opportunities in FDI”, an in-depth look at the development of sustainable technologies and how to integrate ESG in the future, and “Towards Net Zero and Decarbonizing Your Portfolio”, which explores The latest thinking on net zero transition planning. Also in the line-up on day one of the innovation and technology track Innovation and Technology Track are “Cities of the Future: Digital Transformation: Integrating Innovative Technologies,” which explores how digital transformation will affect cities of the future and how we can move forward; “Startups: Fostering Economic Growth” ”, using data and insights to foster the growth of the start-up ecosystem; and “SMEs: Scaling the technology market and implementing technology solutions,” exploring the SME technology market and examining what businesses can achieve through digitization. Titled “Unicorns: Urban Connectivity in Turbulent Times”; “Building a Vision for the Future of Smart Cities (in partnership with We Go),” the session provided timely insights for mayors, city and state representatives, international organizations and business players. Opportunities to identify growing trends in digital innovation and smart problem-solving initiatives for urban challenges and building smart future cities; and technology propel start-ups forward and contribute to the success of future cities; “Trends in the UAE shape the future of innovation (in partnership with Hub 71);” and “Building a Unicorn” will be on Day Two held. Additionally, the third day will feature “SMEs: The Sustainable Climate Finance Initiative: A New Approach to Financing Sustainable Infrastructure and Agriculture Projects in Emerging Economies,” featuring real-life examples of hybrid financing instruments; “The Digital Economy: Implementing Industrial 4.0 – Developing the Right Tools and Platforms” for an in-depth look at how best to use new and innovative technologies; “SMEs: Navigating Investments in the International Landscape and Adapting to Changing Needs and Expectations: Challenges and Opportunities for SME Investments” , discussing the main industries attracting global SME investment; “SMEs: 2023 Trends – Implementing Smart Business, Innovation, Inclusivity and Sustainability through Future Cities”, exploring new trends and trajectories for SME investment; and “Future Cities: Leveraging New Technology and Transformative Technologies for Harnessing the Future” discusses how to harness the potential of innovative technologies to transform cities and implement them into current projects.

Regional Focus Forum Some of the highlights this year are the ASEAN Regional Focus Forum, which Indonesia holds the ASEAN Chair. With the theme of “ASEAN Affairs: The Center of Growth”, the forum will focus on strengthening ASEAN’s ability to cooperate and respond to regional and global challenges. AIM will also host other forums, such as ‘Direct Investment Flows in Arab Countries in the MENA Region: Realities, Opportunities and Challenges’, to explore investment opportunities and ecosystems in the region.

The forum was hosted by the Federation of Arab Chambers of Commerce, the League of Arab States and the Investment and Technology Promotion Office in Bahrain-UNIDO. The next forum, the Regional Focus Forum – Group of African, Caribbean and Pacific States, will present the results of a joint WAIPA and UNIDO survey highlighting the most pressing challenges facing ACP IPA.

The “African Regional Focus Sessions” forum organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa focused on the launch of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and how it could be a milestone towards the creation of a single continental market, as in African Union Agenda 2063: What We Want Africa. On May 10, AIM Global 2023 will host the “LAC Regional Focus Forum on Productive Development in Latin America and the Caribbean: Future Strategies” organized by the Inter-American Development Bank and CAF – Latin American Development Bank, and will review policies and many Latin American and Caribbean A country’s strategy to promote productive development and diversify its economy.

The event will be followed by the SADC Regional Focus Forum, hosted by the Southern African Development Community, which will explore the paradigm shifts transforming the world of capital markets and investing. Side Events AIM will also host several world-class side events on May 8th. These include the World Local Production Forum: Enhancing Access to Medicines and Other Health Technologies, the Global Forum on Credit Management and Non-Performing Loan Investments, and the first part of the Entrepreneurs Investment Summit.

The Russia-Middle East Forum entitled “Russia-Middle East: Cooperation for Economic Growth and People’s Well-being” will also be held on this day.

Finally, “Make it in the Emirates Forum: Emerging Opportunities and Industrial Growth” will also be an important highlight of the first day. Additionally, AIM will be hosting ‘BNEF Talks: Commodities in a Low Carbon Economy’, ‘Entrepreneur Investment Summit Day 2’, ‘Investment Solutions in a Multi-Crisis Context: World Road to Investment Forum 2023’ on 9 May WIF), “Investing in Abu Dhabi: Creating a Hub for R&D Centers: Putting Innovation at the Heart of Economic Progress”, “Investing in Abu Dhabi”, “Finoverse Arabia: Virtual Assets and Web3 Forum”, “Tourism Investing Forum” and “Future Carbon Markets: The Beginning of a Big Carbon Era.” The final day will also see important side events such as the “Future Finance Forum”, “Least Developed Countries IPA Conference” and “World Government: An Incubator for Tolerance”. These forums and side events will provide attendees with valuable opportunities to gain insight into the current state of investment opportunities, market trends and best practices in each region. The Annual Investment Conference is a must-see event for investors and business leaders looking to stay on top of global investment trends.
