These are the headlines from the BRED festival…
Opening on 26 April 2023, BRED Abu Dhabi is billed as the region’s first “New Culture Festival”. If you’re confused about what this might mean, join the New Order Human Meridian (queue).
Fortunately, the organizers have provided a very clear manifesto for their mission, as well as details on what will be happening during the five-day extravaganza.
What’s in BRED?
The festival will apparently “showcase the city’s cultural influence on music, fashion, [gaming,] Sports and Art,” by showcasing exclusive streetwear, bespoke art, street food, music performances, a live street art fair, film screenings, futsal demos, workshops, masterclasses and swish lil basketball duels.

Meat Between Breds
The meat in the sandwich has to be a musical performance, and who doesn’t love a good concert. The opening party will take place on Sunday, April 26th and will be headlined by the voice of Will Smith collaborator DJ Jazzy ‘Shake Shake Shake the Room’ Jeff. Other opening party performers included Syrian singer Omar Souleyman and British-Lebanese electronic music producer and DJ Saliah.
But the most exciting night of live bass music seems to be on Monday 27 April – a concert celebrating 50 years of hip-hop with Def Jam Recordings. Here we’ll enjoy performances by 2 Chainz, Dave East and Armani White. Aside from one of the most prolific collaborative CVs in rap, American rapper 2 Chainz is probably best known for “It’s A Vibe”, “Champions” and “4 AM”.
Armani White will ignite the international scene with his hit singles “Billie Eilish”, “Baazigar” and “Gnarley”. Dave East’s recordings include “Handsome” and “Pablo & Blanco.”
