The 2023 Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge is currently underway. The race, the second round of the FIM World Rally Championship, took place on very similar terrain to the Dakar Rally, with the entire race taking place in the sand dunes of the Liwa Desert. The six-day event includes a prologue and five stages. Stay tuned for this week’s coverage.

The third phase
Today’s third stage had 37 kilometers of contact and 266 kilometers of specials, making up a 188-mile ride. After nearly four hours of racing, Toby Price won the stage. The KTM rider was just 16 seconds ahead of Honda’s Pablo Quintanilla. Schuylerhouse was third, 19 seconds behind Price. Adrien Van Beveren finished fifth on the stage, but still leads his Honda teammate Quintanilla by 43 seconds. With today’s win, Price is third, 2 minutes and 56 seconds behind leader Van Beveren.

second stage
The second stage included a 108-kilometer liaison voyage and a 257-kilometer special voyage, covering a total of 226.8 miles. Husqvarna’s Luciano Benavides took the lead around kilometer 50 and held on to the finish. With the stage win, Benavidez jumped to third place in the overall standings. Honda’s Nacho Cornejo was second on the stage, one minute and 17 seconds behind Benavides. Cornejo was fourth overall, about three minutes behind the leader. American Skyler Howes was third on stage, just 27 seconds behind third.

stage 1
The first stage of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge consists of 162 kilometers of liaison and 242 kilometers of special stages. The first day totaled 251 miles, which consisted of 43% dunes, 52% sand tracks, 4% chott and 1% tarmac. The Honda driver took control of the lead after his success in the prologue, with the duo of Quintanilla and Van Beveren again first and second. Rose Blanche finished third on stage one and fourth overall. Toby Price was fifth on stage, but still third.

prelude
This year’s rally kicked off with a quick six kilometer test at Al Dhannah. Honda riders Pablo Quintanilla and Adrien Van Beveren took the win in a short 5-minute prologue, separated by just two seconds. KTM’s Toby Price finished third, just five seconds behind the leader.
