2023 ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Asian Qualifiers stage in UAE

[ad_1]

All six countries will take part in the ICC Under-19 World Cup Asian qualifiers at Malik 1 and 2 Stadiums and Eden in Ajman. Hosts United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nepal and Singapore will battle it out for a place in the 2024 ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka from 24 February to 2 March.

All the teams have arrived here, trained in various venues, and also played warm-up matches.

The first day of matches on February 24 will see hosts UAE take on Malaysia at Malik 1, while Kuwait will take on Hong Kong at Malik 2. The match between Nepal and Singapore will be held at Eden.

The UAE qualified for the 2020 ICC Under-19 World Cup in South Africa in the last Asian qualifier. The UAE are now led by all-rounder Aayan Khan, who played a key role in their 93-run victory over West Indies at the 2020 ICC Under-19 World Cup. Most of the players in the UAE team have been selected based on their performances in UAE domestic cricket, with some players having played alongside top international cricketers in franchise leagues.

Nepal was captained by Dev Khanal. He has experience as captain of the Nepal Under-19 national team during the 2021 ACC Under-19 Asian Cup in Sharjah. To scout for talent for this Asian qualifier, the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) is organizing a Boys Under-19 National Championship from 23 November to 5 December 2022.

After a series of warm-up games in Oman, Hong Kong has arrived in the UAE for the Asian qualifiers. They selected a strong team based on certain criteria. One of the coaches, Jawaid Iqbal, said the team was selected on the basis of excellence in domestic cricket. The team is captained by Ahan Trivedi of the powerful Kowloon Cricket Club.

Kuwait’s under-19 cricketers are still inspired by their impressive performances in recent years. They played in Division 1 of the ICC Under-19 qualifiers and did well. They also participated in the Asian Under-19 Cup twice. The Kuwait cricket team revealed that the current average age of the team is 16.5 years old. The main reason for choosing such a team is to lay a solid foundation for the team in the next few years. Upon arrival, they trained at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium and played a practice match. The team is captained by Jude Saldanha.

Singapore are led by Jeevan Santhanam, who has been their consistent performer. An excellent all-rounder, he has won many tournaments. In the ICC CWC Asia Zone 2 qualifiers in October 2022, the team performed well and remained unbeaten. They hope to repeat it in the UAE. By the way, in that tournament, the skipper Jeevan Santhanam was the best player of the tournament.

Malaysia hosted the ICC Asia Under-19 World Cup qualifiers in 2019. Although they did not perform well, they worked hard for this tournament. The team is led by goalkeeper batsman Karthik Rajaratnam. The Malaysian Cricket Association hosts the Malaysia Qadrangular T20 Series and over 50 national team trials. A strong squad has been selected from top performances in these games.
