LONDON — For “Star Wars” fans, new entertainment isn’t that far off — Lucasfilm announced on Friday three new live-action films in the franchise.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced the announcement at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023 in London and on the Star Wars website, including that Daisy Ridley will play Rey in one of the films. Directing the film will be James Mangold, Dave Filoni and Shami Obaid-Chinoy. Kennedy brought the directors to the stage to make the announcement.
Mangold’s film will return to Dawn of the Jedi. Filoni’s will tell about the New Republic and “will bring to an end the interconnected stories told in ‘The Mandalorian,’ ‘The Book of Boba Fett,’ ‘Ahsoka,’ and other Disney+ series,” the announcement said. Obaid-Chinoy’s film will focus on the events following “The Rise of Skywalker,” and return Ridley as Rey, “who is building a new Jedi Order.”
Mangold directed “Logan” and the upcoming “Indiana Jones and Wheel of Fortune.” Filoni directed “The Mandalorian” and “Ahsoka,” and Obaid-Chinoy directed “Ms. Amazing” and “Save Face.”
