The UAE has stepped up its crackdown on fake emirates. On Friday, a director of a private company in the United Arab Emirates was charged with falsifying the employment status of more than 40 citizens. The public prosecution has requested that he be imprisoned.

Earlier, administrative action was taken against an Emirati employer who appointed 43 family members to inflate the emiratization rate and benefit from the Nafis scheme.

Nafis is a federal program that empowers Emiratis to occupy jobs in the private sector. Launched in September 2021, the scheme requires companies with 50 or more employees to increase their emirates rate by 2% of their overall skilled jobs. The deadline for achieving the target is December 31, 2022.
