Charlotte: SCarowinds

Carowinds are haunted after dark on select nights before Halloween. Visitors can not only ride the most popular rides in the amusement park in the moonlight, but also enjoy some creepy entertainment, explore haunted attractions, and get through scary areas like Bloody Yars, Ripper Alley, and Grave Walker. Huntersville: Renaissance Festival

People attending the Carolina Renaissance are used to hanging out in the fictional village of Fairhaven in their costumes. The festive Halloween Daze and Spooky Knights weekend took it up a notch with zombie battling, Scavenger hunt and 100+ places for kids to pick up candy.

Indian Trail: Halloween Ghosts

The biggest draw for kids at this event is the trunk-or-treat line. Come dressed up for a Halloween-themed event at Chestnut Square Park.

Matthews: Halloween Haunted Trail

The Matthews Theater of the Performing Arts has been holding auditions for its popular Haunted Trail this month. Brave souls may opt for a less scary tour (5:30-6:30pm) or a total fright (7-10pm). Admission is chargeable. The event helps support community theater.

Peppermint Hill: Scarecrow Contest

The incident occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, when mass gatherings were frowned upon. Residents, companies and community groups decorate scarecrows for public viewing. The public votes for their favorite, and the winner will be announced at Mint Hill Madness on October 22.

Waxhaw: Nightmare

Waxhaw knows how to throw a good festival. The town is teasing some really cool attractions for its annual carnival, including trick-or-treating and a Halloween movie.
