Living in our gleaming complex of towers and villas, it’s easy to forget that the Emirate of Abu Dhabi actually involves some fascinating geography. And of course there are deserts, but also mountains, mangroves, beaches, forests, and in fact, the coastal fringes are actually made up of more than 200 separate islands. Much of Abu Dhabi, the city, actually sits on its own group of small islands, connected to the mainland by a series of bridges.
This means that one of the best ways to explore this fascinating emirate is to strap on a life jacket and get a little nati. Here are some of our favorite ways to enjoy an Abu Dhabi adventure on the high seas.

Dalma Island Day Trip
Dalma Island can be reached by ferry from Sir Baniyas Ferry Terminal, there is a walking ticket for AED 20, or you can bring a car for AED 100. Once you reach the island, you will feel a world away from any city. It’s a very quiet island, so don’t expect too much from an iced latte or multiplex cinema – instead, you can find the raw charm of nature, indulge in stunning pristine scenery and plenty of nesting soco Terra Cormorant.
