In response to the incident, U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller tweeted on Monday: “The United States strongly condemns Saturday’s vandalism and attempted arson against the Indian Consulate in San Francisco. Sabotage against diplomatic facilities or foreign diplomats in the United States or acts of violence are criminal offences.”

“Fire broke out at the Indian Consulate in San Francisco between 1:30 and 2:30 am on Sunday,” Diya TV, a South Asian broadcast network in the United States, said in a tweet.

“The fire was quickly extinguished by the San Francisco Department with limited damage and no staff were injured. Local, state and federal authorities have been notified,” the statement said.

A poster shared on social media said a “Khalistan Freedom Rally” would be organized on July 8, starting in Berkeley, California, and ending at the Indian Embassy in San Francisco.

“We have asked our partner countries, such as Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, countries where Khalistan activities sometimes occur, not to give space to the Khalistan. Because of their (Khalistan) radical, extremist ideas It’s not good for us, it’s not good for them, it’s not good for us. Relationship,” the minister said.

“We will be asking poster questions to these governments,” Jaishankar said.
