UAE Logistics Network Gets Major Boost as Trade Infrastructure Expands
The UAE is expanding its UAE logistics network by connecting ports, airports, railways, roads and free zones as the country strengthens its position as a global trade and logistics hub.
The latest developments, reported on August 22, 2026, highlight a growing focus on multimodal transport. The approach is designed to allow goods to move more efficiently between different transport systems while supporting businesses and international trade.
One of the key developments is a new logistics corridor linking Sharjah with Oman. The UAE is also developing the Al Dhaid Logistics Complex, which covers more than 16 million square feet and is planned to have an initial handling capacity of around 1.5 million TEUs.
The country’s ports are also being expanded. Khorfakkan Port is targeting future capacity of up to 10 million containers, supporting the UAE’s role as an important gateway between Asian, Middle Eastern and international markets.
Rail is another major part of the strategy. Etihad Rail is increasingly connecting industrial areas, ports and logistics centres, allowing freight to move by rail instead of relying entirely on road transport.
Free zones are also being integrated into the wider network, giving companies access to logistics infrastructure, warehousing and international trade connections from a single ecosystem.
For businesses, the expanding UAE logistics network could mean faster cargo movement, greater supply-chain flexibility and improved access to regional markets.
The developments are part of the UAE’s broader strategy to strengthen its logistics sector and maintain its position as a major global trade and distribution centre.
