Elton John told his millions of fans on Saturday night they would stay in his “head, heart and soul” and ended his performance with one of his biggest hits, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.” A marathon farewell tour in Stockholm.

Elton John paid tribute to his current band and crew, some of whom have toured with him for years.

“They’re just unbelievable,” he said. “They’re the best, I tell you, the best.”

He kicked off his show with “Bennie and the Jets” and has since performed a number of other hits, including “Philadelphia Liberty,” “Little Dancer,” “Rocketman” and “Candle in the Wind.”

His farewell Yellow Brick Road tour began in North America in 2018, and this is his second night in Stockholm.

Touring the world, he’s performed to more than six million fans, a highlight being his headlining at Glastonbury last month.

That concert attracted one of the largest audiences in the festival’s history and millions of British television viewers.

His Stockholm show included a video message from Coldplay, who were simultaneously playing in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The band’s Chris Martin told Elton: “Of all the bands and artists you’ve helped and inspired, we love you so much.

“We are so grateful for everything you do for the AIDS Foundation, whenever you are kind to anyone,” he said.

It was one of the highest-grossing tours of all time: Billboard reported that it was the first tour to gross $900m (£701m).

Ayrton reflected on his life in the finale, telling viewers about his “52 years of pure musical joy”.

He confirmed that he will “never be touring again”, but he may do “one-off things” in the future.

“I want to thank my family, my son, my husband and everything. I deserve it,” he said.
