Zelensky asserts Ukraine will join NATO World News

[ad_1]

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine would become part of NATO ahead of a meeting at which he expected Kiev to work out an “algorithm” for formally joining the military organization. “We are still working on the wording, the exact wording of such a confirmation, but we already know the fact that Ukraine will join the coalition,” Zelensky said. Get membership.”

Zelensky said the summit must confirm that Ukraine is already a “de facto” member of NATO because it has weapons and shares the alliance’s values.

“Even though different positions have been expressed, Ukraine should clearly join the coalition. Not now — the war is happening, but we need a clear signal. We need that signal now,” Zelensky said.

US President Joe Biden to meet with Zelensky?

U.S. President Joe Biden will meet Zelensky one-on-one at the summit, Reuters quoted a U.S. official as saying, although the Ukrainian leader has yet to formally confirm his participation in a coalition meeting in Lithuania.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden welcomed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s support for Sweden’s NATO membership and said he looked forward to welcoming Sweden as America’s 32nd NATO ally. Joe Biden thanked NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg for his “firm leadership,” saying: “I welcome the statements made tonight by Turkey, Sweden and NATO Secretary-General, including President Erdogan’s commitment to Sweden forwards Turkey’s Accession Protocol. The Grand National Assembly quickly ratified it. I stand ready to work with President Erdogan and Turkey to strengthen defense and deterrence in the Euro-Atlantic region. I look forward to welcoming Prime Minister Christensen and Sweden to our 32nd NATO ally. I thank Secretary-General Stoltenberg for his steadfast leadership,” he added.
