85% prefer a company that allows them to work remotely

Some 85% of respondents in the Middle East and North Africa said they would prefer a company that allows remote work all or part of the time, and 91% said they would consider changing jobs in 2023.

That’s according to the Mena 2023 Modern Job Search Strategies survey conducted by Bayt.com, the top job search site in the Middle East.

Respondents prefer online career sites (71%) to traditional job search methods when it comes to finding new opportunities. These figures call for recruiters and companies in the MENA region to invest more in digital platforms to find and engage with potential candidates for career development opportunities.

Ola Haddad, Director of Human Resources at Bayt.com, said: “There has been a clear shift in job market trends in the MENA region. Our latest survey provides insight into how job seekers are adapting to and succeeding in these emerging trends. data. Employers must also keep these trends in mind to remain competitive, while job seekers should focus on developing the necessary skills and leveraging digital tools to remain relevant and succeed in a more balanced and future-proof work environment.”

Modern professionals prioritize several skills in the current market. A majority of respondents (85%) expect remote hiring to increase in the coming months, indicating a changing job market that is embracing digital transformation and changing work policies.

The top three skills respondents considered most important included the ability to work without supervision (34%), flexibility and ability to adapt to change (27%), and self-motivation and discipline (17%), suggesting that people are more Increased emphasis on autonomy and adaptability to the current employment situation.

Survey data shows that email remains the primary method of communication for job seekers (41%), followed by online recruitment sites (38%), underscoring the growing importance of an online presence and effective digital communication in the MENA job market.

With an increasing shift to online interactions, 53% of respondents are already very familiar with conducting video interviews, which is in line with the growing adoption of technology in the hiring process. Meanwhile, preference for specific interview types remains split between face-to-face interviews (30%), video interviews (30%) and phone interviews (27%).

The survey highlights that for modern job seekers, crafting a strong online resume and cover letter (38%) is the most important aspect of the job search process, followed by searching for job opportunities online (36%), highlighting the need for professionals to Invest in their online presence and leverage digital tools to stand out in a competitive job market.
