UAE summons Swedish diplomat to condemn Quran desecration

The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Chargé D’Affaires at the Embassy of Sweden in the UAE, delivering an official note of protest against the repeated attacks on copies of the Holy Quran by extremists in Sweden. The UAE strongly condemned Sweden’s decision to permit such acts to continue, expressing concern that it disregarded international responsibilities and showed a lack of respect for social values.

Emphasizing the importance of monitoring hate speech and racism that disrupt peace and security, the Ministry rejected the use of freedom of expression as justification for such heinous acts. They also stressed the need to respect religious symbols, avoid incitement, and promote unity during a time when global collaboration is crucial in upholding universal principles of tolerance and peaceful coexistence. The Ministry highlighted that these principles are vital for achieving stability and sustainable development.

Furthermore, the Ministry asserted that allowing such heinous acts contradicts international norms and laws that safeguard religions and religious symbols. They emphasized that hate speech and extremism contribute to the outbreak, escalation, and recurrence of conflicts worldwide.
