Senator Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar Named Pakistan’s Caretaker PM

Ess-known senator Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, hailing from Pakistan’s least-populous province, has been designated as the caretaker prime minister to lead the country up to the forthcoming election, as affirmed by the opposition leader on Saturday.

Raja Riaz Ahmad stated, “Our initial agreement was that the prime minister should be from a smaller province to address the concerns of these regions.” This was conveyed following a meeting with outgoing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Pakistan’s parliament was dissolved recently, triggering a mandatory election within 90 days.

However, due to the recent census results and the consequent need for constituency redrawing, a longer timeframe is anticipated.

Whenever the election transpires, it will likely take place without former prime minister Imran Khan, who was convicted of corruption and sentenced to three years in prison.

Assuming control during a period of political unrest since Khan’s dismissal via a no-confidence vote in April the previous year, the interim government is tasked with navigating simultaneous economic and security challenges.
