Pakistan’s election commission has declared that the postponed elections will occur in the last week of January next year. The final list of constituencies is slated for publication on November 30, followed by a 54-day election program leading up to the polls. A caretaker government has been in place since the dissolution of parliament on August 9.
Originally, polls were expected within 90 days, but the election commission extended the timeline to accommodate constituency adjustments based on the latest population census.
These elections will take place amidst a political crisis, which includes the imprisonment of the popular politician Imran Khan and a significant crackdown on his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party.
