Overseas fans are banned from participating in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics | Winter Olympics News

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, after the Tokyo Olympics were held in an empty stadium, the Olympic Committee welcomed the decision to allow Chinese spectators to participate in the February event.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that next year’s Beijing Winter Olympics will be held without overseas fans, and tickets are limited to fans living in China due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The IOC also stated that unless athletes can provide a “reasonable medical exemption”, only participants who are fully vaccinated at the Olympic Games starting on February 4 will be exempt from 21 days of quarantine upon arrival.

The International Olympic Committee admitted that the international fans who were unable to participate were disappointed, but welcomed the decision to allow Chinese spectators to enter the stadium after the Tokyo Summer Olympics were held in an empty stadium due to COVID-19 precautions.

The International Olympic Committee said in a statement: “This will promote the development of winter sports in China…and bring a good atmosphere to the venues.”

“However, all parties feel sympathy for the athletes and spectators from all over the world, knowing that restrictions must be imposed on spectators outside of mainland China to ensure the safe holding of the Winter Olympics this year.”

The International Olympic Committee stated that one of Beijing’s safety principles is that all fully vaccinated participants will immediately enter the so-called “closed-loop management system” upon arrival, where they will move freely.

It will last for nearly two months until after the closing of the Beijing Paralympic Winter Games on March 13.

This will cover all areas and stadiums related to the Olympics, as well as accommodation, catering and opening and closing ceremonies, and will be served by a dedicated transportation system.

The International Olympic Committee stated that all domestic and international participants and staff in the system will be tested daily.
