Ivanka Trump In a Manhattan court, Ivanka Trump testified in a civil fraud trial that has brought to light the inner workings of her father’s business empire, former President Donald Trump. The trial could result in the loss of valuable New York properties for the Trump family.
Ivanka’s Testimony and Focus
Unlike her siblings and father, Ivanka is not a defendant in the case. During her testimony, she mentioned her focus on redeveloping the Doral golf course in Florida and the Old Post Office property in Washington during her tenure as a top executive at the Trump Organization from 2011 to 2017. She stated she was “generally familiar” with accounting practices but not a specialist.
Allegations of Fraud and Penalties: Ivanka Trump
The lawsuit, led by New York Attorney General Letitia James, alleges that Trump and his family businesses manipulated real estate asset values to deceive lenders and insurers and enhance Trump’s image as a successful businessman. Justice Arthur Engoron has ruled that this conduct constitutes fraud and is now deliberating on potential penalties.
Trump’s Denials and Claims
Former President Trump has denied any wrongdoing and has accused James and Engoron of political bias and “election interference.” During his testimony, he acknowledged that valuations of his properties were sometimes inaccurate but claimed these errors were not relevant to financial institutions.
Testimonies of Trump’s Sons
Trump’s sons, Donald Jr. and Eric Trump, testified that they were not responsible for the financial documents central to the case. However, emails and other documents indicated they may have been more involved than their testimonies suggested.
Legal Implications and Consequences: Ivanka Trump
Ivanka was removed as a defendant in June by a state appeals court, as she was not involved in the conduct subject to the lawsuit. Nevertheless, James contends that Ivanka played a role in manipulating property values.
Justice Engoron’s ruling, which found Trump, his adult sons, and ten of his companies liable for fraud, could lead to the Trump family losing control of some of their most prominent properties, although the order is currently on hold pending appeal. James seeks $250 million in fines and restrictions preventing Trump and his adult sons from conducting business in New York.
Trump’s Ongoing Legal Challenges
Apart from this case, Donald Trump faces four separate criminal cases, including two related to his efforts to overturn President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory. Despite his legal issues, Trump holds a significant lead over Republican rivals in polls for the 2024 presidential race.
