Urgent Safety Move: Emirates Halts HK & Shenzhen Flights Over Powerful Typhoon Ragasa

Emirates Airlines Cancels Flights to Hong Kong Flights and Shenzhen as Super Typhoon Ragasa Approaches

Dubai, UAE – Emirates airline has proactively suspended multiple flights to and from Hong Kong and Shenzhen in response to the imminent threat of Super Typhoon Ragasa, a powerful storm forecast to make landfall in southern China. The cancellations, affecting services from September 23 to 25, 2025, are a precautionary measure to ensure passenger and crew safety as the region braces for severe weather conditions.

The decision impacts both direct passenger services and connecting flights, disrupting a significant portion of Emirates’ operations in East Asia. Travelers are urged to check their flight status immediately and contact the airline for rebooking options.

List of Affected Emirates Flights

The suspended routes are critical links between the UAE and key Chinese economic hubs. Passengers holding tickets for the following flights during the specified dates should not proceed to the airport:

  • Dubai – Hong Kong (EK380) and Hong Kong – Dubai (EK381): Cancelled from September 23 to September 25.

  • Additional Hong Kong Services (EK382 and EK383): Also suspended for the same period.

  • Dubai – Shenzhen (EK328) and Shenzhen – Dubai (EK329): Cancelled on September 23 and September 24.

  • Connecting Shuttle Services: Emirates’ flights between Hong Kong and Bangkok on September 23-24 are also cancelled.

Official Passenger Advisory and Rebooking Instructions

Emirates has issued clear guidelines for affected passengers:

  1. For passengers who booked through a travel agent: Contact your agent directly to make alternative arrangements.

  2. For passengers who booked directly with Emirates: Reach out to the Emirates contact center or use the “Manage Your Booking” feature on the airline’s official website or mobile app to rebook your flight.

Crucially, the airline has stated that it will not accept passengers transiting through Dubai whose final destination is Hong Kong or Shenzhen until further notice. This measure is intended to prevent travelers from being stranded in Dubai.

Reason for Disruption: The Super Typhoon Ragasa Threat

The mass cancellations are a direct response to the severe threat posed by Super Typhoon Ragasa. Meteorological agencies predict it will be one of the most intense storms to hit the region this year, with sustained winds exceeding 185 km/h and the potential for torrential rainfall and significant storm surges.

In anticipation, Hong Kong authorities have raised high-level typhoon warnings. Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is expected to suspend all passenger flight operations during the peak of the storm, making it impossible for airlines to maintain schedules. Emirates’ pre-emptive cancellation aligns with broader regional safety measures, including evacuations, school closures, and public transport suspensions across southern China.

Scale of the Impact on Emirates Operations

The disruption is substantial for the Dubai-based carrier. Under normal operations, Emirates runs 14 weekly flights to Hong Kong and 7 weekly flights to Shenzhen. This suspension therefore represents a significant operational halt on these major routes, affecting not only point-to-point travelers but also global connecting traffic through its Dubai hub.

What Passengers Should Do Now

If your travel plans involve Hong Kong or Shenzhen between September 23 and 25, take the following steps:

  • Verify Your Flight Status: Immediately check your flight status on the Emirates website or app before heading to the airport.

  • Do Not Travel to the Airport: If your flight is listed among the cancellations, do not proceed to the airport.

  • Contact Emirates or Your Agent: Follow the rebooking procedures outlined above. Emirates has expressed regret for the inconvenience and is prioritizing customer communication during this period.

  • Monitor Weather Updates: Keep abreast of official updates from meteorological agencies regarding Typhoon Ragasa’s path and intensity.

Emirates has confirmed it is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with airport authorities and will resume services only when it is deemed safe to do so. Passengers are advised to stay informed through official Emirates channels for the latest updates.
