Jebel Jais Temporarily Closed After Heavy Rains in Ras Al Khaimah – Attractions Shut for Safety

Jebel Jais Temporarily Closes All Attractions After Heavy Rains in Ras Al Khaimah

Jebel Jais, the United Arab Emirates’ highest peak and premier adventure destination, has been temporarily closed to the public following intense rainfall in Ras Al Khaimah. The precautionary shutdown, announced by authorities, affects all major attractions on the mountain, including the world-famous Jais Flight Zipline, as safety teams conduct urgent inspections and maintenance.

Closure Details and Impacted Attractions

The decision comes after a significant weather system brought heavy downpours to the northern emirates between December 17-19. The National Centre of Meteorology recorded up to 127mm of rain in Al Ghaznah over two days, leading to flooding and hazardous conditions.

As a result, all operations at Jebel Jais are suspended until further notice. This full closure includes:

  • Jais Flight (the world’s longest zipline)

  • Via Ferrata climbing route

  • Bear Grylls Explorers Camp

  • 1484 by Puro restaurant & Red Rock BBQ

  • Jais Viewing Deck Park and its yoga sessions
Temporary road closures are also in effect on the mountain to facilitate inspections and ensure public safety.

Safety First: Proactive Measures and Visitor Advisory

Authorities have emphasized this is a proactive safety measure. Accumulated water on mountain roads and visitor areas has increased risks of slippery surfaces and rockfalls. Donald Bremner, CEO of Marjan Lifestyle (the asset manager), stated that visitor wellbeing is the top priority, ensuring the destination’s long-term safety.

Important advisories for the public include:

  • Avoid camping in wadis (valleys), which are prone to flash flooding.

  • Exercise extreme caution on any trails, as conditions are unstable.

  • Stay updated via official Jebel Jais channels for reopening announcements.

Reopening Plan and Weather Outlook

phased reopening is planned once comprehensive safety assessments are complete. Each attraction and area will be individually evaluated and will only resume operations after meeting strict safety standards.

The UAE is experiencing cooler temperatures following the rain, with a chance of further isolated showers. The situation underscores the need for vigilant monitoring of outdoor and mountainous areas during periods of unstable weather.

Visitors and adventure enthusiasts are urged to heed all official warnings and exercise patience as authorities work to ensure Jebel Jais can safely welcome back guests for its peak winter season.
