Abu Dhabi Dh300 Million Public Transport Upgrade: What Commuters Need to Know
Abu Dhabi has announced a Dh300 million public transport upgrade aimed at making bus services smarter, more reliable and easier to use.
Abu Dhabi Mobility, part of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, announced the project during LIVEX 2026. The investment will introduce new digital systems to improve bus operations and fare collection across the emirate.
A key part of the Abu Dhabi Dh300 Million Public Transport Upgrade is an Automated Vehicle Management (AVM) system. It will allow transport authorities to monitor buses and journeys in real time.
The system is designed to improve schedule management, fleet operations and service reliability. It will also provide more data to help authorities plan and manage public transport services.
Another major change will come through a new Automated Fare Collection (AFC) system. The digital system is expected to offer more flexible payment options, including bank cards, digital payments and QR codes.
How the Public Transport Upgrade Will Affect Passengers
The project is expected to make everyday bus travel more convenient by improving both operations and payment systems. Passengers could benefit from:
- Real-time monitoring of bus services
- More efficient journey and schedule management
- More flexible digital payment options
- QR-code payment facilities
- Better use of transport data to improve services
The contract has been awarded to Conduent Business Solutions S.A.S., which specialises in smart mobility and electronic fare collection systems. The company has worked with more than 400 public transport networks across over 20 countries.
The project forms part of Abu Dhabi Mobility’s wider digital transformation plans and is intended to prepare the emirate’s transport network for future growth.
