Dubai Culture is preparing to launch a special edition of this year’s Dubai Youth Theatre Festival (DFYT). The festival, which will be held from November 19 to 25, 2021, witnessed unprecedented participation by national theater companies from all over the UAE.
Dubai Culture has set up a committee to review the performances of various theater companies to evaluate the work of participants. The committee will ensure that the content is appropriate in terms of theatrical elements and meets the established standards for transparent and fair evaluation of the work of the participating teams.
The festival organizing committee has formulated 15 criteria for selected performances, including: ensuring that the overall form of the script is homogeneous and coherent; the performance is clear and easy to understand; it reflects basic youth issues; Originality and creativity; and all other elements of theatrical works conform to the customs and traditions of the UAE.
This year’s film festival has an unprecedented participation of 14 national theater companies from the UAE, including: Yas Theater-Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah National Theater, Sharjah National Theater, Sharjah Public Art and Modern Theater, Hofakham Theater, Dibba Al Hisn Theater, Kalba Theater, Fujairah Theater, Ajman Theater, Dubai National Theater, Dibba Al Fujairah Theater, Shamal Art Association, Folk Heritage and Theater-Ras Al Khaimah, Dubai Al Ahli Theater and Al Ain Theater.
It is worth noting that Dubai culture has always been keen to pave the way for the participation of theater talents of all ethnic groups living in the country to provide a platform for creativity and experience.
Fatma Al Jalaf, Acting Director of the Department of Culture and Performing Arts in Dubai, said: “Our preparations for DFYT 2021 are progressing smoothly. The theater is full of enthusiasm and eager for the return of live performances. DFYT will be accompanied by a series of outstanding and diverse music activities, enriching the festival with the elegance of classical music style. Al Jallaf emphasized the importance of this festival and its ability to fulfill the Authority’s desire to create a sustainable creative environment for theatrical arts, as well as the progress of UAE theaters in a way that empowers a creative economy and strengthens Dubai’s status as a global cultural center and creativity An incubator and a thriving talent center.
In order to prepare for a splendid film festival under the current epidemic situation, the bureau held a virtual forum in August last year, gathering board members and a group of national theaters across the country. DFYT is organized by Dubai Cultural Organization every year to reveal the creativity of UAE theater groups and provide a platform to introduce the talents and abilities of staff in this field. The festival also provides a stage for up-and-coming actors, directors, writers, interior designers, producers, makeup experts, sound engineers, visual and light performance experts and fashion designers to showcase their skills to a wider audience.
