Rally driver hits spectators violently, killing 2 children-News

Authorities said a driver lost control in a drag racing on a Texas airport runway and crashed into a crowd of spectators, killing two children and injuring eight others.

The police said in a press release that a 6-year-old boy and an 8-year-old boy were involved in the crash at an event called “Airport Race Wars 2” held at the Kerrville-Ker County Airport on Saturday afternoon. Killed in. Thousands of people participated in this organized event, and drivers accelerated on the track in order to compete for cash.

Kerrville police stated that the driver “lost control and left the runway, rammed a parked vehicle and attacked spectators who were observing the game”.

The injured victim was taken to multiple hospitals, including a 46-year-old woman in critical condition. The authorities stated that although the condition of a 26-year-old man is unknown, it is believed that most other injuries will not be life-threatening. A 4-year-old boy and a 3-month-old girl were taken to the hospital for preventive evaluation.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the two children who died about 60 miles (97 kilometers) northwest of San Antonio.

The website of the Kerrville Convention and Tourism Bureau advertised the event as a “Energetic Family Friendly Day”, where fans can watch “the fastest tractor to compete for a total prize of more than $8,000.”

According to Louis Amestoy, a freelance journalist who participated in the event, more than 3,500 people attended.

The race is one-eighth of a mile (0.2 km) long, and there are plastic barriers filled with water on both sides of the track. But Amestoy said they did not cross the finish line because they slowed down at the end of the race, so there was no protection between the spectators and the car.

Spectators can enter within about 15 feet (4.6 meters) from the track, and many people sit on lawn chairs without a stand to watch the game. Amestoy told the Associated Press in a telephone interview that the organizers remind people to stay on the grass and stay away from the asphalt.

Amestoy said the driver was approaching the end of the runway when the car deviated from the route.
