When visiting Dubai for the first time, Argentine basketball legend Luis Scola was struck by its dazzling landmarks and stunning skyline, and planned to spend a vacation with his family soon. He is also exploring investment avenues and seems to be keen to open a basketball academy here.

Scola is one of the few athletes in the history of sports to have participated in the five Olympics and the five World Championships. Scola is also seriously considering the idea of opening a basketball academy in Dubai, and said: “We have already talked a little bit. [opening an academy in Dubai] I think it will be great. Scola has dual citizenship of Argentina and Spain. After rejoining the Italian professional basketball club Pallacanestro Varese as CEO in September this year, he is currently based in Italy. In the summer of 2020, he signed with Varese Club, this is his last season as a professional basketball player.
Scola’s career began in Argentina in 1995-96, when he was 15 years old, and three years later he went to Spain, where he spent nine years. “Olympic gold medals are hard to beat,” said Scola, who also won gold medals with Argentina in the 2008 FIBA Diamond Ball Championship and the two FIBA Americas Championships (2001 and 2011). “Every time you win an Olympic medal, this is probably the most important thing.
