New UAE law introduces flexible working hours for the private sector

Human Resources and Emirates Minister Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar said: “In the reduced working hours model, if an employee works 40 hours a week according to the contract, he can now complete 40 hours in three days.” This can take effect if the employer and employee agree to all the terms in the contract.

The new law provides more protection for employees engaged in different types of work, such as part-time and temporary work. Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar said that the new law is the result of the Covid-19 outbreak, technological advancement and workplace changes. As the UAE looks towards the next 50 years, this is part of the UAE government’s commitment to a more flexible working environment.

The law applies to a contract that does not exceed three years, although the contract can be renewed and discussed for a period of time, subject to mutual agreement. Federal statute number. Act No. 33 of 2021 also outlines a strict prohibition against sexual harassment, bullying or any verbal, physical or psychological violence against workers by supervisors or colleagues.

According to the decree, workers will be exempted from up to 100,000 dirhams of judicial fees at all stages of litigation and enforcement, as well as requests made by workers or their heirs.
