Expo 2020 celebrates International Day of Persons with Disabilities – Dubai Blog

Expo 2020 Dubai marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), and its flagship event is located at the Nexus venue of humanity and the earth, which discusses issues such as inclusive accessibility, education, decent work, innovation and technology, and sports.

The theme of this year’s IDPD is the celebration held on December 3rd each year. Its theme is “Leadership and Participation of People with Disabilities in an Inclusive, Barrier-Free and Sustainable Post-COVID-19 World”. Co-planned with the UAE Ministry of Community Development and in cooperation with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), the expert event “Shaping an Inclusive Future for All” features government and business leaders, artists and athletes, and showcases people with determination Achievements and show the ways in which individuals and organizations can collaborate to achieve tolerance.

Dina Storey, Head of Sustainable Development Operations at Expo 2020 Dubai, said: “Inclusiveness is one of the UAE’s main values. Speakers at the event include Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development; Maria-Francesca Spatolisano, Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Coordination and Inter-Agency Affairs, UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs; Vladimir Cuk, Executive Director of the International Federation of Disabled Persons; UN DESA Daniela Bass, Director of the Department of Inclusive Social Development, and Dr. Victor Pineda, Founder and President of the Victor Pineda Foundation.

The multi-form event included lightning talks and moderated panel discussions. Participants shared the success stories of bold methods, partnerships and ecosystems. These success stories promoted innovation and accelerated change by determined people. Topics range from how to create a more convenient world for people with disabilities to implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.

Disability is mentioned in the Sustainable Development Goals, especially in the areas of education, growth and employment, inequality, access to human settlements, and data collection.

Expo 2020 Dubai is dedicated to creating opportunities for determined people. Among the Expo 2020 volunteers and employees, there are determined people who play an active role in shaping the entire Expo experience, and the design of the entire venue is open to everyone, ensuring that everyone is a part of the global experience celebrating the diversity of the world and encouraging humanity An inclusive future.

IDPD is a global celebration held on December 3rd each year. Its purpose is to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all areas of society. According to the United Nations, nearly 1 billion people, or 7 billion or about 15% of the world’s population, have some form of disability.
