#Roommates, there’s never been a better time to trade an old car for a new, stylish and innovative luxury automaker than at the beginning of the year BMW When you pull up, there might just be something you need to turn your head around. BMW recently released a new concept car called the iX Flow SUV that changes colors according to your mood at the touch of a button.
as one of the leaders in the field luxury car market, BMW is constantly looking for new ways to combine car design and technology. @CNN reports that BMW has unveiled its latest concept, the iX Flow, an SUV that can quickly (and easily) change colors…including its wheels! The shade of the vehicle changes from white to grey or black within seconds and back again. The discoloration effect is created by using specially shaped packaging that is cut to fit the body panels on the SUV. Additionally, the tech-savvy packaging uses the same type of e-ink technology as the e-reader. From there, cut the colored panels to match the shape of the iX Flow body panels, then finally connect the wires to each section.
What’s more interesting is that the entire surface of the panel contains millions of small capsules with negative white and positive black pigments that use an electric current to bring one pigment or the other to the surface to create different hues. There’s also no need to worry about needing constant charging to keep the color changing, as the panel doesn’t have to do so to keep its color. Once the color change is done, the panel retains its hue without any charge.
BMW design chief Adrian van Hooydonk explained the idea behind the concept car, which is not currently in production for purchase, as an “advanced research and design project”.
However, iX Flow’s project lead, Stella Clarke, spoke about why potential customers might want to try out the SUV. “This enables drivers to express different aspects of their personality, or even their enjoyment of external changes, and redefine that every time they sit in the car.”
