Enninful also talked about how the entire fashion industry needs to do better to ensure the longevity of black models. “It’s sad and heartbreaking to see the sudden drop in girls on the rise. We need to make sure these girls stick around. We have to invest in them, nurture them and support them with editorials, ads and programming. It has to be 360 Spend.”
He continued, “Alek Wek didn’t suddenly become Alek Wek. Girls like her had a group of us behind them, pushing them forward. That’s what we had to do in all the different roles. Get these girls and then in a Throwing them away after the season? That has to stop.”
