[ad_1]

Today, the Court Commissioner ordered Darrell Brooks Jr. He must stand trial last November for driving an SUV to a suburban Christmas parade that killed six people and injured dozens more.according to AP News, prosecutors have provided ample evidence that Darrell may be guilty of a felony. The revised criminal proceedings include 71 additional charges against him.

The charges include six counts of homicide and multiple counts of reckless endangerment. If convicted, he faces life in prison if convicted of one count of murder. During today’s court session, reports show District Attorney Susan Opper called a witness to appear in court. Detective Thomas Casey testified that he and other officers yelled at Darrell to stop as he drove his SUV through the parade.

Detectives also detailed how Darrell was driving the SUV and zigzagging across the road, hitting the marchers from behind and knocking them over in the fatal incident. He said Darrell wounded 61 people, including the six he killed. Darrell’s attorney, public defender Anna Kees, spoke on his behalf and suggested her client was affected, noting that the officers who arrested him noticed he smelled of marijuana and his eyes were red and glassy.

Anna also said her client was unable to close the parade route because the side street was barricaded and surrounded by spectators. She noted that he explained to the detective that he had no intention of killing anyone and that he couldn’t look directly when the detective showed him pictures of the carnage. Darrell will return to court for arraignment on February 11, when he will sign a plea agreement. Darrell will remain behind bars on a $5 million cash bond.
