A wise woman once said, “They make it when you got the coins,” and that’s the case for Jeff Bezos. As the most wealthiest man in the world four years in a row and a net worth of $177 billion, he is seeking to the Dutch city of Rotterdam to dismantle an historic bridge so his superyacht could fit through.
Earlier this week, it was announced that the Dutch city had agreed to dismantle the middle section of the 95-year-old bridge that has a clearance of 130-feet, so that the yacht could pass through this summer.
But on Thursday evening, officials issued another statement and said they had not approved the plan, but is aware of the request.
The city also said that they cost to temporarily dismantle the bridge would be coved by the shipbuilding company, “De Hef.”
According to reportsthe superyacht is the largest yacht int he world, coming in at 417 feet.
Most recently, Jeff Bezos announced that he was donating $100 million to Jones to do “whatever he wants,” as he stated that Jones was one of two recipients of the Courage and Civility Award, which is one of his “surprise” philanthropic initiatives. Bezos also added that “They can give it all to their own charity or they can share the wealth. It is up to them.” The donation and award is to honor those who have “demonstrated courage” and tried to be a unifier in a divisive world, Bezos explained. The other recipient was Chef Jose Andres.
As he accepted the massive financial gift, Van Jones expressed his shock and appreciation, saying “sometimes dreams come true.” He also told Jeff Bezos, “You bet on me and I appreciate it. [It’s money for me to] “give to others who have a similar spirit.”
