MOUNT CARMEL FESTIVAL: The Girard Mount Carmel Festival takes place Tuesday through Saturday at the Italian Fraternal Home at 33 W. Wilson Ave. Food, games, bingo and nightly entertainment will take place on Saturdays from 8-11pm. At 10am, head to the Parish of St. Rose for the 11am service. Zambelli’s fireworks will take place next to the Girard-McDonald Viaduct at 11 p.m. Saturday.
During the fireworks display, East Liberty Street between Route 422 and Marshall Road in the United States will be closed from 8 p.m. to midnight, with a detour south of Route 422, west of Interstate 80, northwest of Salt Springs Road, and northeast of West Liberty Street.
NILES FESTIVAL: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish on Niles Robbins Avenue will be on July 17 from 11am-2pm, 5pm-10pm, Saturday 4pm-11pm and 11am Hosts the annual Mount Carmel Festival from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm. There will be rides, games, bands, bocce and bingo. Live music will be on Thursday and July 17th from 6-11pm and Friday and Saturday from 7-11pm.
UPTON HOUSE: The Upton Society will be hosting an Open House today at Harriet Taylor Upton House, Mahoning Avenue, Warren, from 2pm to 4pm.
Call to Action: A Community Call to Action will be held today at 3pm at the Trumbull Community Action Plan, 1230 Palmyra Road, Warren. There will be group discussions with youth and young adults from Generations I, X and Z. During the event, the panel will discuss legislation affecting black communities, including illegal redistricting, school safety, concealed carry, women’s rights, eminent domain, and the environment. Masks must be worn indoors.
Center Provides Supplies: The Emmanuel Community Care Center at 2 N. State St. in Girard is hosting a school supply distribution for children whose parents are enrolled at the center. Those in need of school supplies can contact the center at 330-545-4301 until August 12. Families will be notified when items will be picked up.
A Touch of Hometown: The Trumbull County Fair will create a hometown feel with a barrel art competition for Trumbull County schools. The school was given a 55 gallon steel pail to decorate and paint. The barrels will be displayed throughout the fairgrounds, with pots placed on top, for a public vote, which will be voted on by residents of Shepherd of the Valley Assisted Living. Prizes will be awarded for the first to third prizes. There’s also a Bloom Where you are Planted 4-H contest where the 4-H club will restore flower beds in the playground barn. Mosquito Spraying: Howland Township will spray mosquitoes from dusk at Alexander Pest Control until 5 a.m. Monday and Tuesday. If it rains, spraying will take place the next night. Residents are encouraged to close windows, keep pets indoors, and not leave any food outside.
Bird’s Coffee: Trumbull County MetroParks will be offering Bird’s Coffee at Foster Metropark on Saturdays at 10 a.m. One can listen to the birds and learn the basics of bird watching. The program will be led by volunteer naturalists. Bring coffee and a chair.
Game Night: The Unity Centre at 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty Zone will host a Game Night every third Tuesday of the month at 7pm. Anyone in the community is welcome. Orwell Concerts: St. Mary’s Church of Orwell will celebrate its centennial with the Orwell Village Summer Concert Series at Orwell Chaffey Park on Wednesday. The Martin Brothers concert will begin around 6:30 pm. American Legion Post 749 and Boy Scouts 72 will post color and escort Rev. David Bridlin and state and local dignitaries to the pavilion and present announcements to St. Mary. St. Mary Centennial is the featured organization and will feature all proceeds at the concession stand to pay for the centennial event. DJ Bill Cook will provide pre-concert music starting around 5pm. In the event of inclement weather, concerts and lectures will be held in St. Mary’s Parish Hall at 103 N Maple Avenue.
