The forthcoming Fiji-UAE Business Council will provide a collaborative umbrella on legislation, resources and incentives.
This was underlined by Minister of Commerce Faiyaz Koya during a meeting with Humaid M. Ben Salem, Secretary General of the United Arab Emirates Chamber of Commerce and President of the International Chamber of Commerce.
In many ways, Fiji is at the heart of the Pacific Ocean, with a young and dynamic workforce that Fiji is harnessing to create economic opportunity, Koya said.
He added that Fiji has service-driven industries such as tourism, as well as producers of commodities such as organic ginger and turmeric.
The Secretary-General further stated that although the two countries have established friendly bilateral relations over the years, there is great potential in areas such as tourism, climate-resilient infrastructure investment, agriculture, food and artificial intelligence.
The parties agreed to initiate a process of cooperation between the UAE and Fiji Chambers of Commerce, with the first meeting to be held virtually to explore the establishment of the Fiji-UAE Business Council.
They also discussed the potential to collaborate on market paths.
