UAE Heliport Approval Time Cut From 135 Days to Just 2 Days
The UAE has cut the approval time for domestic heliports from up to 135 days to just two working days under a new regulatory framework introduced by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
The change is aimed at reducing paperwork and speeding up the development of domestic heliport facilities across the country. It forms part of the UAE’s wider efforts to simplify government procedures and improve the ease of doing business.
Previously, domestic heliports were required to complete a longer certification process. Under the updated system, eligible domestic facilities can use a faster registration procedure that can be completed within two working days.
The GCAA said the new framework follows a risk-based approach. This allows regulators to focus more closely on higher-risk aviation activities while reducing unnecessary administrative steps for lower-risk domestic operations.
The move could support growth in the UAE’s helicopter and wider vertical aviation sector. Faster approvals may also help operators develop new facilities and services more efficiently.
However, the two-day process does not apply to every heliport. International heliports and facilities requiring full certification will continue to follow the applicable aviation safety and regulatory requirements.
The reform is part of the UAE Government’s Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme, which seeks to reduce unnecessary procedures and make public services faster and simpler.
