PM Nikol Pashinyan stated that the move will allow border demarcation without the risk of military conflict.
The Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan (Nikol Pashinyan) proposed that as tensions between the two neighboring countries escalate, Russian border guards will be stationed along the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
His comments on Thursday came as Armenia and Azerbaijan accused each other of ignoring the Russian-backed ceasefire agreement that the two sides accepted the day before to stop deadly clashes on their common borders.
TASS quoted Pahinyan as saying at a government meeting: “Given the current situation, I think it is reasonable to consider the deployment of Russian border troops along the Armenian-Azerbaijan border.”
He said that Armenia is preparing to discuss the proposal with Moscow, which will allow border demarcation and demarcation work without the risk of military conflict.
The Armenian Ministry of Defense said earlier that the Azerbaijani army opened fire on the Armenian position on the Gegharkunik part of the border early on Thursday, prompting Armenia to return fire.
In a statement, it described the calm as of 7 am local time (03:00 GMT).
The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan stated in a statement that the Armenian army used machine guns and grenade launchers in the direction of a village in the Kelbajar region and threw hand grenades. It said its troops fired back.
Ceasefire is Call Wednesday Some of the worst border conflicts have occurred since the six-week war between the Armenian National Army and the Azerbaijani Army last year over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh area and surrounding areas.
Armenia said three soldiers were killed and two wounded. Azerbaijan stated that two of its soldiers were injured.
Last year, during the September-November fighting, before Russia initiated a ceasefire, the Azerbaijani army drove the Armenian army out of the large tracts of territory in and around the Nagorno-Karabakh area that they had controlled since the 1990s.
The long-simmering border dispute between the two countries has since erupted. Both sides have accused each other of invading each other’s territory in recent months, highlighting the fragility of the ceasefire.
Moscow has deployed about 2,000 peacekeepers in the area to monitor the November agreement.
